Why StoCAD

The drawing board and the yard finally agree.

Most jobs are lost in the handover between the sketch, the schedule and the saw. StoCAD keeps them as one artefact, so what you design is what gets cut.

  • Stone
  • Steel
  • Timber
  • Custom

Without it

  • Spreadsheets that go stale the moment a radius changes.
  • Set-out worked off a chalk line and a bit of hope.
  • Schedules typed up after the drawing, then typed again for the saw.
  • Finishes agreed on site and forgotten before the first cut.

With StoCAD

  • One model holds the geometry, the schedule and the cutlist.
  • The curve-wall engine solves chords, wedges and joint gaps for you.
  • Change a dimension and every view, table and export moves with it.
  • A finish per piece, carried through to the drawing and the cutlist.

Features

The systems that do the hard part.

Parametric geometry, multi-material assemblies, finish-aware 3D and an automated cutlist — all reading from the same model, so nothing drifts between the screen and the saw.

Curve-Wall Engine

Curved walls that cut true.

Chord-versus-arc maths at every joint. Set the arc and StoCAD sizes each piece, then generates the back-cut wedges and joint gaps the yard actually cuts.

  • Chord & arc solver
  • Back-cut wedges
  • Joint gap control

Multi-Material

Stone, steel, timber — one model.

Masonry courses, SHS box sections with mitres and weld preps, timber framing, or a custom material you define. The schedule follows whatever each piece is set to.

Finish-Aware 3D

See the finish before it is cut.

Flamed, honed, sawn or polished. Assign a finish and the 3D view shades, the drawing hatches, and the schedule records it — so the yard knows what surface leaves the shop.

Spreadsheet-to-Cutlist

From schedule to saw, untouched.

Every dimension in the model lands in a millimetric schedule, then becomes a cutlist with stock sizes, cut lengths and edge treatments — pushed straight to StoCut.

  • Live schedule
  • Edge treatments
  • StoCut export

Millimetre Sync

One source of truth.

Change a radius, a tread or a joint and the plan, the elevations, the schedule and the cutlist all move together. Nothing goes stale on the way to site.

  • Plan & elevation
  • Auto dimensions
  • No drift

How it works

Draw, clad, cutlist, then StoCut.

  1. 01

    Draw

Set out the job in millimetres — doorstep, patio, seating, wall, curve wall, or the whole garden sheet.

  2. 02

    Clad

Place the material: thickness, edges, and finishes (bullnose, sawn, and the rest) on each piece — stone, steel, timber, or a custom set you define.

  3. 03

    Cutlist

The desk builds the piece list: quantity, size, and edge call-outs for the yard.

  4. 04

    Send to StoCut

Push the cutting plan to StoCut for nesting and sheets. Your sell prices stay in your own quoting system, and are not part of that handoff.

Examples

Doorstep, front garden, side return, split level.

Four plan views issued from the desk. Rise, going, and the pieces are on the sheet.

StoCAD plan of a clad doorstep: top landing and treads, box rise 150 mm, width 2180 mm.

Doorstep

Clad from the top: walking surface, then uprights. Box rise 150 mm, width 2180 mm.

StoCAD plan of a small front garden: a street pier, a three-rise doorstep, a patio from the bottom tread, and a low wall with coping.

StoCAD plan of a side return: an against-wall flight, a narrow path, and a raised planter with coping.

StoCAD plan of a split-level garden: two terraces with steps between, herringbone on the upper terrace, and retaining coping.

Inside the desk

Plan, elevation, schedule — then the cutlist.

Pick the job, set it out in plan, and the elevations, the material schedule and the cutlist follow. The picture is the last look, not the first tool. No account needed to try it.

A whole garden room on one sheet.

Seating, an outside kitchen, steps from the lawn, a wall and the kerb line — modelled together, so the schedule and the cutlist are never guessed. Millimetres a client can approve and a supplier can price.

The same steps, as the client sees them.

Four treads. Rise 150 mm, going 400 mm. The sketch is what the yard builds; the picture is what you send before a stone is cut.

Four limestone garden steps between a lawn and a gravel path, risers in two courses, treads overhanging.

Questions

Straight answers.

+What do I actually draw?

Garden seating, outside kitchens, patios, steps, walls, kerbs, doorsteps, and ramps — including a whole garden room on one sheet. The desk stays simple. The finished sketch carries the millimetres.

+What is the difference between the packages?

Seat is one person: client sketches, a formwork package, PNG and PDF, and a StoCut cutlist. Sales Office adds two more people, shared jobs, supplier drawings, SVG, and DXF. Outlet adds two more people again, a layered file for Photoshop, and anything beyond five people is quoted.

+How much do I save by paying annually?

Seat: annual £197.89; twelve monthly payments £215.88; saving £17.99 (8.3%); 12 for the price of 11. Sales Office: annual £599.90; twelve monthly payments £719.88; saving £119.98 (16.7%); 12 for the price of 10. Outlet: annual £899.91; twelve monthly payments £1,199.88; saving £299.97 (25%); 12 for the price of 9. Not VAT registered. Prices are final; no VAT is added.

+Can I open the drawing in Photoshop, Illustrator, or SketchUp?

PNG and PDF open anywhere, including Photoshop, on every paid package. Sales Office and Outlet also issue SVG for Illustrator and DXF for SketchUp. Outlet adds a layered file aimed at Photoshop. These are exchange files, not a native .ai or .skp.

+Where is my account, and where do settings live?

You can try the drawing desk free, without an account. When you have a seat, package, people, and sign-out are in the app, under Account. This site does not keep a second login.

+Who do I write to?

Write to pks@philstone.co.uk, or use the enquire form. A larger outlet, a package question, or a job the desk does not cover yet — same address. We reply to the address you enter. That address is not published.

+Will an assistant draw the job for me?

No. You set the seating, the kitchen, the steps. The millimetres are yours. This public site is written so a person or a search assistant can read what StoCAD is. Assistants do not see enquiries, and they do not draw.

+Where does the card go?

Card checkout is not live on this brochure yet. Request a seat on the signup page. When payment is switched on, the card will stay on Stripe’s page — this site will never see the number. Sign-in stays in the desk app.

+Do the prices include VAT?

Not VAT registered. Prices are final; no VAT is added.

+Which materials can I draw?

Stone masonry, structural steel box sections with SHS mitres and weld preps, timber framing, and custom materials you define. The schedule and the cutlist follow whichever material each piece is set to.

+How does the curve-wall engine work?

Set the arc. StoCAD solves the chord at every joint, sizes each piece, and produces the back-cut wedges and the joint gaps. The wedges are dimensioned on the schedule, ready for the saw.
